2008.06.27. Cast Endorses Jericho Movie
Brad Beyer and Ashley Scott, two of the stars of the twice-canceled CBS show Jericho, told journalists that they have been hearing rumors of a possible feature-film version and would be interested in doing it if the opportunity presented itself.
"We got here and caught wind of a possible movie idea, which we thought was really good," Scott said in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, Calif., on June 24, where she and Beyer were acting as presenters. "I think Brad had heard about it online the other day, and I just heard tonight, and I thought that would be really wonderful, wouldn't it? Kind of put a closing on it."
Jericho was canceled after the end of its first season in 2007, but returned for seven additional episodes earlier this year after a fan campaign convinced CBS to bring the show back. It was canceled again after the episodes aired to mediocre ratings.
Beyer, who played farmer Stanley Richmond, said that he would like to see the film cover the escalating civil war between the remaining survivors of a nuclear attack in the U.S.
"We kind of feel like it needs some closure, because it still feels kind of weird," Beyer said. "I mean, we didn't get to a whole second season. ... I think you can do a lot more with it. I think there's a lot of different ways you can go with the story."
Fans of the show are currently campaigning for another network to pick the show up. Both actors said that they would gladly come back, whether it be for a feature film or a new incarnation of the series.
"I think we're all very passionate about the show." said Scott, who played Emily Sullivan. "We have been from the moment I read the script, the first script, the pilot. I think we're all very passionate about it. We're so thankful that our fans have been so incredible. It's been such a blessing to know that we're thought of that way. I think, at least speaking for myself, I know I'd be back."
Beyer added: "Yeah. I think everybody that I keep in contact with would definitely jump on board with it. ... We're all pretty much open to it. It was such a great, positive experience, why wouldn't we want to do it again?"

Jericho Nuked by CBS - E! OnlineAw, (pea)nuts. Despite getting a fan- (and legume-) powered reprieve, CBS has given the heave-ho to Jericho. Unfortunately, follow-through doesn't appear to be Jericho fans' strong suit. The show has continually been on the losing end of the Nielsen fight since its relaunch last month.
Jericho averaged 6.8 million viewers through its first six episodes this season (the finale will be the seventh), in the neighborhood of other CBS un-favorites like Viva Laughlin (6.5 million—for one episode) and Welcome to the Captain (6.3 million). Last season, when it got canceled the first time, Jericho averaged 9.2 million for a 23-episode season. That's a loss of nearly 2.5 million viewers, or 26 percent of its audience. Most every show is down this year, but that's even worse than usual. Jericho does, however, continue to be a bankable hit online, both as one of CBS' Innertube's most-watched shows and as an iTunes performer. The second-season premiere sold more than 700,000 copies, making it one of iTunes' most downloaded shows.

Intentional Leak-From copywrite.Inc
In 2006, Jericho Season One was one of many new shows with its first episode or so leaked to the media and across the Internet for early viewing. The same now seems to hold true for Jericho Season Two. At least three episodes can be found on the Internet. Maybe more.
Sometimes, networks, studios and producers do leak information and complete episodes to generate additional buzz and excitement for a show, especially if they lack confidence in the product and/or promotion. (Then again, BitTorrent continues to see an increase in intentionally leaked network shows, regardless of merit.)
For me, there doesn’t seem to be any logical reason for CBS to intentionally leak Jericho, which has survived almost a year as the most-talked about show without a schedule in the last decade, maybe history. But that's not to say CBS doesn’t make mistakes now and again, especially when it treads the unfamiliar territory that surrounds this crazy town in Kansas.
If anything, an intentional and 3-deep leak for this show would have risked much more than it could ever hope to gain, potentially derailing all efforts that have been mounting buzz around the countdown. Worse, it could be a disaster if non-fans circumvent fan efforts by harshly critiquing these shows simply because they can.
As I’ve said throughout this campaign, there are some people who would like Jericho to fail, especially those who despise popular movements and, well, social media in general.
What To Do About It
From the fan perspective, pretend it doesn’t matter. Focusing on the leak is nothing more than a buzz kill for the countdown excitement, which is where it will matter most to capture Nielsen families.
If the leak becomes the only news, and it might, then it could trump consumer marketing efforts much like child labor law news damaged Kid Nation. In other words, staying the course seems smart for fans, even if it is only out of feelings for solidarity.
Besides, many fans have been working hard to drum up some interest on their own with some worthwhile ideas slowly taking hold as their first prize is only weeks away. I suggest people let them do it their way. It’s their show as much as anybody else.
